Pet laundry toolkit

Ten checks before a pet load

These ten checks match the one-page sheet. Read the exceptions in the guide. A minute or a dose stays on the bottle that printed it.

1. Read the label. No label means you do not guess a cycle.
2. If birds live in the home, ask a veterinarian before using cleaners around them. Keep pets off wet product.
3. For hair and everyday dirt, wash on the cycle and water word the label allows. Pet items may share a load with household clothes.
4. Clean the dryer lint screen before or after every load.
5. Urine is a different job. Rinse with cool water. Do not use hot water before the stain is gone. Do not dry until the stain and the smell are gone.
6. Use one urine product, and only as that bottle says. Do not copy its minutes onto another bottle.
7. Never mix chlorine bleach with ammonia, vinegar, or another cleaner. Do not put chlorine bleach on fresh urine.
8. If a dog or cat swallows detergent, a pod, a dryer sheet, or fabric softener, call a veterinarian or (888) 426-4435. Do not treat it at home.
9. Laundry does not treat fleas, ticks, ringworm, or worms. The pet needs a veterinarian.
10. A label that says line dry, air dry, or do not machine dry wins over a hotter dryer setting.
