Eight-step checklist

This is the companion checklist. Step numbers match the 12-page guide. Read the full exceptions in the guide.

  1. Set up before you lift. Keep detergent, labels, and a clean return basket ready.
  2. Handle and contain gently. Use gloves for body-fluid-soiled items and do not shake them.
  3. Read labels and check belongings. Never blindly search a bag that may contain sharps.
  4. Treat the actual stain. Follow the product timer. Never pretreat clothes while they are worn.
  5. Measure detergent for the washer, load, and soil. Leave room for movement.
  6. Run a full cycle the textile and product both allow. A rinse is not a wash.
  7. Inspect, then dry completely. Clean the dryer lint filter before use.
  8. Reset for the next person. Wash hands and mark unfinished laundry clearly.

US Letter; print using Fit to printable area.

1. Stains and odors

2. Sensitive skin

  • Use the labeled dose. Extra detergent can leave residue.

3. Fresh bedding & towels

  • Dry fully before storing. Clean the lint filter.

4. Less lifting & bending

  • Carry lighter loads. Ask for help with heavy wet laundry.

5. Special-care items

  • Pads and covers can need a different setting.

6. Make handoffs easier

  • Label baskets: NEEDS WASHING / NEEDS DRYING / READY TO USE.

Laundry safety

  • Handle soiled items gently. Use gloves for body-fluid contact and wash hands afterward.
  • Never mix chlorine bleach with vinegar or ammonia, or pour bleach directly onto urine-soaked fabric. Keep products in original containers, locked away when needed.
  • Blood, vomit/diarrhea, known infection, loose medication patches, or treatment-related precautions? Follow care-team or facility instructions.

The guide's handoff labels on page 8 are NEEDS WASHING / WASHED—NEEDS DRYING / CLEAN AND DRY. The poster's basket labels are NEEDS WASHING / NEEDS DRYING / READY TO USE. Both are kept. NEEDS DRYING is a handoff label. It is not permission to leave laundry wet.
