Wash Bodega - Your Neighborhood Laundry

700+ backpacks went home with Houston kids.

We planned for 500. The neighborhood pushed it past 700 — and ran 600+ free wash and dry cycles while it happened. Somewhere between the folding tables and the front door, grown adults stood there crying. Not over a laundromat. Over this many people showing up for each other.

We set out to fill 500 backpacks. The neighborhood had other plans. Families were lined up before the doors opened and kept coming all morning — for a backpack, for the free machines, or just to stand in it. By noon, more than 700 backpacks had gone home with Houston kids.

A volunteer sorts fresh towels into a washing machine as event preparations continue.

The machines never stopped. From 7 AM to noon, every wash and dry was on the house — more than 600 free cycles. Plenty of families walked out with a backpack and a week of clean clothes for the first day of school in the same trip.

None of it happens alone. Reach One 713 led the charitable program. Wash Bodega hosted the event and provided the free laundry. The AI Impact Foundation added human-supervised digital and operating capacity. Sponsors, volunteers, vendors, families, and neighbors made the morning work in person. Thank you.

Your Neighborhood Laundry

This is what a neighborhood laundry is for.

We're not a chain. We're the washateria on W Bellfort — open 24 hours, run by neighbors. When the block needs something, we open the doors wider. That's the whole plan. Se habla español.

Charitable donations are made to Reach One 713 (501(c)(3), EIN 85-1291895). Wash Bodega hosts and sponsors events.

Pass the good news along.

Send the recap to a sponsor, a volunteer, or a neighbor who was there.
